How will my data be stored?
In May 2018 the Data Protection Act was replaced by the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). The changes to the Data Protection Act are aimed at ensuring that your personal, confidential and sometimes sensitive data, is held privately and securely.
How long will you hold my information for?
Your written records will be stored securely for 8 years after your last interaction with your therapist (adult) and up to the age of 25 for a child under 16 when last seen or 26yrs for 17-18 year olds.
What if I would like my data to be destroyed before this date?
Under GDPR rules, you are able to request the deletion of any of your records at any time, though we do ask that all such requests are in writing, via post, email or text.
Am I able to see or get a copy of the information held by you?
In line with GDPR, we will provide a copy of the information we hold about you within 30 days of your request. This service is free of charge.
What are your reasons for collecting this information?
We collect information from you so that we can contact you, for example, to rearrange an appointment; The information you provide helps us plan and modify your therapy sessions to optimise the outcome and tailor a programme that is specific to you; We also collect information to record your progress and evidence your gains; Should you have any contraindications to therapy, we would need to record these too.
How do I know that you will store my information securely?
Paper records are stored in a locked filing cabinet in a locked room. Electronic records are stored behind password protected programmes, apps and devices. Firewalls and security software are installed on devices to minimise cyber attacks. Devices are locked away.
Are our discussions within the hypnotherapy sessions confidential?
Yes, unless we need support from supervisors, in which case we would anonymise your data. We would be obliged to speak to your GP or other healthcare professional if we had reason to believe that you are about to harm yourself or another person.
What if I see you outside of a hypnotherapy session?
Our therapist/s will not acknowledge you because you may be with company or not wish to have to explain how you recognise them. However, if you do wish to engage, then please feel free to do so.
Will you discuss information about me with other health and social care professionals?
Only with your written consent unless there is an imminent risk to you or another person.
